The never-ending conversation on life, liberty, and sequential art…

…with Shawn Levasseur.

Strange things can be found in website referral logs.

Apparently, a while back, someone found this website as a top result of a Google search on “connection between ayers and levasseur.”

Hey, I only commented on a comic strip of his. I deny any other involvement with the man. (Who’d have thunk that I’d have this in common with Obama? )

All joking aside, I suspect they were searching based on Ray Luc Levasseur, and not me. No relation, but whenever he crops up in the news I jokingly refer to him as “Crazy Uncle Ray”

C.U.R., was a member of a radical group not unlike the Weathermen, and he was involved in many bombings and bank robberies. A police officer was killed by one of these acts.

I can’t find an impartial accounting of this crimes online to show you, mostly supporters who think his acts of violence were justified, and refer to him as a “Political Prisoner” during his time in jail.

I understand and in some cases agree with some of the complaints about the government back in the Vietnam era. But these acts did nothing to stop it, or persuade anyone.

Worse is the propping up of C.U.R. as an intellectual, and someone who should be listened to. That his acts have GAINED him respect in the eyes of some activists disgusts me. Those on the left shouldn’t celebrate C.U.R., but mourn the fact he followed the path he chose. They should have taken his actions as a failure to find a more productive mean of action.

I should know, I feel the same way about another domestic terrorist who seemed to hold some beliefs similar to my own. Tim McVeigh, the guy who bombed a building in Oklahoma City back in the 90’s. He apparently held libertarian-like beliefs about the federal government. After the bombing I took the tragedy as a lesson: That we needed a more effective Libertarian Party. That if we were more successful, that people like McVeigh would have sought to work to change the government through the political process and not acts of war.

I only wish that more people thought the same of Crazy Uncle Ray.

If anyone wonders why I think that the existence and growth of the Libertarian Party is not only important, but essential. Now you know why. I’ve seen glimpses of the alternatives, and they are not good at all.
