Ties are not T-Shirts.

Senator Ted Stevens is the poster child for graft and porkbarrel spending. The metaphorical architect of the Bridge to Nowhere. He’s been recently indicted for receiving gifts from federal contractors.
Worse, he’s committed the fashion faux pas of the Tie as a T-Shirt.
Pictured here is Sen. Stevens in an Incredible Hulk tie with a variety of Hulk artwork and the book’s logo prominently featured.
The Tie as a T-Shirt is defined by an art arrangement that would work well on a T-shirt, but on a tie it looks awful. Ties are formal wear, business wear, not “lets have goofy fun” wear.
Not to say that you can’t be creative with ties, or that a comic theme cant find it’s way onto a tie. Small versions of a character’s logo or icon could be put into patterns on a tie.
It looks cheezy when a fanboy wears something like this. It’s downright embarrassing to see a member of the U.S. Senate wearing this.
It’s been said that you should dress for the job you want. Ted’s dressing as if he wants to be a kid getting his first job at a comics shop.
