The third edition of the Carnival of Liberty is up.

For those who aren’t familiar with blog carnivals, they are usually weekly collections of links to blog posts from a variety of contributors, all about a common theme. It’s sort of an all-star game of blogging, with a different blogger compiling and hosting the carnival each week.

There are lots of them out there. Instapundit frequently links to many carnivals as they are posted. There occasionally are some attempts at creating a directory of carnivals, or a “Carnival of Carnivals”, but I have not seen anything that is kept up to date that much.

The term “Carnival” comes from the very first one titled “Carnival of the Vanities”, most other Carnivals usually are called “Carnival of…” hence the term blog carnival. However, some carnivals don’t have “carnival” in their name. “Grand Rounds,” a medical themed carnival, is one example).

I was going to link to the Samizdata Blog Glossary, instead of explaining carnivals myself. But they have yet to put an entry up for “Carnival.”
