I posted about 20 or so items on Last night’s Oscars ceremonies. To start at the beginng of these posts, scroll down until you hit the February 25th heading (assuming they are on the main page, otherwise go to the February 2005 archives.
Botched delivery of the award… (don’t they rehearse… ?) I guess it’s hard to do when one presenter is always asking about his motivation But okay Million Dollar Baby is the big story, but Aviator has its mark as the not quite as big story. Yep, multiple acceptance speeches always end up getting the later […]
Over on the official Oscar site there’s a page that announces a blog by the show’s producer, Gil Cates. But when you click on the link all you get is the text: “No web site is configured at this address.”Maybe it’ll be a live-blog… but I think Mr. Cates has better things to do this evening.
At this point all I know is that I know nothing…. Clint wins!!! Okay maybe I do know something. Love the speech. A celebration of old coots still getting it done. As I said Scorcese will get a Lifetime award sooner or later. And the bonus of that is that you are given all the […]
Going through samples of each performance… Every one brilliant. There are favorites, but no one would really be considered an upset if they won. Jamie Foxx wins. He sings just two notes and you can tell that Foxx could probably have held his own in performing Ray Charles’ music if they hadn’t used the masters […]
Best Actor: If pressed, I’ll go with Don Cheadle for “Hotel Rwanda”. But I see it as a dead heat between him and Jamie Foxx. Though with a credible third candidate in Clint Eastwood, the voting could end up going any which way. Since Clint is up for Director as well, many voters will feel […]
A bit of an upset, but not too much I may not give them the Tomei award. “Aviator”’s run seems to be winding down. “29 seconds… 27 seconds” SIGH, I demand longer acceptance speeches. If the show goes long… So be it!
At least they gave us an idea about what these films are about.
Whew! Back on track. Geez, whatever happened to letting the very top categories stretch their acceptance a bit….
Singing your song as your acceptance very cool, and a great way of showing how it’s supposed to be sung. Antonio didn’t seem put off, and was loving it.
I don’t think the sad funereal music was really a good idea. It was supposed to be a tribute to those passed on celebrating and thanking them for what they achieved in life, not lamenting their loss. With that in mind, I think the audience’s cheers and applause was the proper tribute. I’ve been griping […]
Proving that Cinemagic on XM radio was valuable for my being able to pick this category. Prince is in the house? Wow. You wouldn’t expect him at an Oscar show. And it looks like Johnny Depp raided Prince’s closet for his outfit.
Well, at least I now know that Hardwood was about Basketball. Oh lookie… they thanked HBO (GRUMBLE,,,) (and he sounds like Rain Man) And guess the 2nd guy get’s screwed. Yep FINALLY Rock trashes the treatment of 2nd tier awards. “Next year they’ll be giving out Oscars in the parking lot”… Given my earlier critique […]
Cinematography: Traditional presentation. The Aviator is officially a juggernaut. Million Dollar Baby may win the top categories, and still be only 1/2 the story of tonight’s Oscars. Selma Heyek AND Penelope Cruz… I suddenly am reminded of my heterosexual orientation. Too much distraction here. I may forget to be outraged at the lineup of anonymous […]
Nice ad-lib by Jeremy Irons when a bang was heard in the background “I hope they missed”… Another “Back of the theatre award”, but considering the “nobody’s seen it” part of the category I don’t care. Heck, they didn’t even bother to show clips to give us any idea what the film was like.
