E-Voting stinks

More proof that touch screen voting does not work, and undermines voter confidence, from Wired.
Not suprisingly the League of Women Voters have recinded their prior endorsement of electronic voting. (story also at Wired)
Simple paper ballots, that can be counted by scanners and humans alike are the best option.
Electronic voting puts too much power in the hands of those who have the technichal know-how of these machines. Only they have the ability to detect errors or fraud, and even then they could be easily missed.
With human-readable ballots, verifying the integrity of the ballot is not limited to a minority of the populace. Advocates of e-balloting have too blind a faith in technology, or are too focused on cutting the expense of printing paper ballots to worry about the trustworthiness of voting.
